About us

Ours is a laboratory shop where since 1995, my wife and I in collaboration with other artisans, have been making papier-mâché masks following the techniques of the Ancient Art of “mascareri” (mask makers) which was born in Venice in about 1200 and from which the Venetian artisan tradition develops.

The papier-mâché technique fits perfectly with the term “handmade”.

From a block of clay the shape of the mask is created on which a plaster casting is made, in order to obtain a cast (negative) and we proceed by shaping paper and glue inside the cast for several layers.

It is dried and the eyes and edges cut off, the mask is ready to be decorated.

Our masks are decorated respecting traditional techniques: gilding in gold and silver leaf, earth, colors, stucco, patina, bitumen and wax to achieve anti-stamping.

The finishing is then the next step, for which we use fabrics, trimmings, macrame ‘, swarovski, pearls and feathers of various colors.
